Have you ever looked up at the night sky and felt something deep inside you? Maybe a feeling of awe, or even some odd sense of being a part of something greater. Those feelings aren’t just your imagination. Your mind and the universe are more connected than you think.
We Are Made of Stardust
Oftentimes, scientists find the elements in our body, like carbon, oxygen, calcium, and iron, may have all been created inside stars. Long ago, colossal explosions from the stars blasted a lot of elements into space. Eventually, that matter amassed into planets, fed plants, grew animals, and finally combined to create us. So yes, according to scientists, we comprise of stardust. This is the first link your mind has to the universe. The stuff that is your brain, was once the stuff that was inside the stars.

Your Brain Is Like the Universe
When scientists study the structure of the brain and universe, they see something interesting: they look very similar. Furthermore, neurons make up the brain that connect and form networks. The universe is composed of galaxies that also form large networks. In 2020, scientists published a paper that showed how the brain and the universe are mathematically similar. An important point I am trying to make is that this does not mean your brain is a tiny universe, but it does show that nature loves patterns, whether measured in thought or stretched across the stars, similar shapes and systems appear over and over again.

Inner Space and Outer Space
Like we explore outer space through telescopes, rockets, and engineers, we can explore inner space through thinking, dreaming, meditation, and psychology. Your inner space is composed of thoughts, memories, hopes, fears, and imaginations. The more we explore our inner space, the more we understand ourselves and the more we realize how deep and wide our universe is.
Emotions Are Like Stars
Have you noticed that some emotions pulsate brightly and strongly, like the sun? Others, less noticeable, are like a hidden star. Emotions are real, just as stars are real; stars illuminate the sky, and emotions illuminate your inner world. In addition, they enact the decisions you make and reinforce who you are and how you relate and connect to others.

You Are Connected to Everything
In the past, we thought the universe was cold, inhospitable, and a great distance away. Although now we understand that everything connects to everything, and experience this in our lives and even in a relationship with the universe,; often, we do not feel grounded in this experience. We connect deeply to our body, to our thoughts, to our feelings, to nature, to the earth, and to the stars. You are not alone in the universe; you belong to it. The universe lives in you—in your body, in your mind, and in your soul.
What This Means for You
To sum it up, when life seems confusing and hard, remember – you are part of something great. You are full of light, akin to stars on a dark night. If you slow down and look inward, you will remember your thoughts, visions, dreams, and feelings. The universe will reveal itself in you.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, the stars in the sky are beautiful. But so are the stars in your mind. Hence, you are not a little person in a big universe. You are a big universe in a little person. So, when you look up at the stars next time, I want you to please be sure. You are seeing a reflection of your inner universe.
