Miracles Mentioned in the Quran

The Quran is not just a Muslim holy book; it is also a miracle. For over 1,400 years now, the Quran has captivated millions of hearts through its deep wisdom, powerful words, and scientifically correct facts that were not known during the period of its revelation. However, the Quran explains a great many other miracles that befell the prophets and humans before and around the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They recall God’s power and benevolence.

In this blog, we are going to talk about some of the most famous miracles in the Quran, what they teach us, and why they remain relevant today.

What is a Miracle?

Before we discuss the miracles of the Quran, it is well to know what a miracle is in Islam. A miracle is an extraordinary occurrence that violates the laws of nature. It occurs by the will of God to assist His prophets and demonstrate His signs to mankind.

For instance, if a person can walk on water, or a dead person revives, this is not natural. In Islam, these acts are performed only by the will of God through His special prophets.

The Quran: The Greatest Miracle

Muslims consider the Quran to be the greatest miracle provided to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). As compared to other miracles that took place once and stopped, the Quran is a dynamic miracle.

Why is the Quran miraculous?

  • Language and style: The Quran was recited in Arabic, yet the style, rhythm, and beauty are unparalleled. Even Arabian great poets could not equal its level it.
  • Scientific facts:  The Quran discourses about things that were found centuries later, such as phases of development of a fetus in the womb, the roundness of the Earth, and the separation between salt and fresh water.
  • No changes: The Quran never experienced any modifications for over 1,400 years.. No letter was changed, which in itself is a miracle if you think of all the books that are changed or changed over time.

Famous Miracles Mentioned in the Quran

Let’s see some significant miracles which the Quran refers to:

The Miracle of Prophet Musa (Moses) – Parting of the Sea

One of the most well-known miracles is the history of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him). When Pharaoh’s army pursued them and their nation, they reached the sea.  They had no escape route. At Allah’s behest, Musa struck the sea with his staff, and the sea divided into two parts.  A dry road was formed, and the Israelites walked over safely. When Pharaoh and his people tried to follow, the sea engulfed them, and they perished.

This miracle is an open sign of the help of Allah if you trust and have faith in Him.

Miracles Mentioned in the Quran

Prophet Isa (Jesus) – Healing the Sick and Raising the Dead

Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) was granted many miracles. Provided sight to the blind or healed the sick with diseases such as leprosy. Even brought the dead back to life, according to the command of Allah. Also created a bird out of clay, blew on it, and it came alive by the command of God.

These miracles established Isa as an actual prophet and not a human. They also inform us that only Allah governs life and death.

Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) – Saved from the Fire

Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did not have faith in idolatry. King Nimrod asked him to be put in a huge fire. But Allah instructed the fire to behave gently and Ibrahim to be kept safe within it. He emerged unharmed.

This miracle demonstrates that if you cling strongly to not lose the truth and trust in Allah, He will save you even in unimaginable circumstances.

Prophet Yunus (Jonah) – Swallowed by a Whale

Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) departed his people when they were not willing to listen to him. He boarded a ship, but the ship encountered a storm, and Yunus was cast overboard. A whale (habitually reported as having been a whale) swallowed him. Yunus prayed inside the belly of the whale in the darkness and prayed for forgiveness. Allah granted his prayer and caused the whale to spit him out whole.

This miracle is a reminder that it is never too late to repudiate and then return to Allah and ask His pardon.

Miracles Mentioned in the Quran

The She-Camel of Prophet Salih

Prophet Salih (peace be upon him) was sent to the Thamud nation. They requested a miracle to confirm that he was a prophet. Allah thus gave them a she-camel that came miraculously forth from a rock. Salih instructed them not to harm the camel. But they killed it out of pride. Allah later punished them for doing wrong.

This miracle also instructs us to respect the miracles of Allah and not be arrogant.

Miracles of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Apart from the Quran, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was also gifted with other miracles:

Night Journey (Isra and Miraj): The Prophet traveled in a single night from Makkah to Jerusalem and then to the heavens. That was not possible for any human being at that time.

Splitting of the Moon: When the people asked for a miracle, the Prophet pointed towards the moon, and the moon was divided into two halves at the behest of Allah.

Water from his fingers: Water fell from the Prophet’s fingers in times of need, sufficient to quench his companions’ thirst and for cleansing.

These miracles consolidated his followers’ faith and turned it into a reality that he was the last messenger of Allah.

Why Do These Miracles Matter Today?

Others may wonder, “Why are we discussing old miracles? Do they have any significance today?” The response is yes!

These stories are not just old fables. They are teachings for us:

Faith: Miracles are a reminder that Allah has the power to do anything. When things become tough, we ought to have faith in Him.

Hope: In the same way the prophets were rescued from hopeless situations, Allah shall rescue us as well if we stand firm in faith.

Signs: They inform us that this world is not random. There is a Creator who has control over everything.

Final Thoughts

The Quran tells us of such miracles so that we might reflect and learn.Such signs give the believers the courage in their hearts as well as the reminder to be patient and believe. For others, they are an appeal to ponder deeply concerning life, purpose, and the Creator.

Let us never forget that Allah is almighty and His mercy encompasses us, just as it did to the prophets and their nations.
